Tom Carson

Over the past fifteen years, Tom Carson has established himself as an active professional theatre practitioner in Canada. Tom’s freelance directorial work has appeared on stages from Montreal to Vancouver, winning the hearts of audiences and garnering critical acclaim throughout the country. He is currently the General & Artistic Manager of Smile Theatre in Toronto.

Tom’s direction has brought to life a wide range of productions for both adults and children. His work has been invited to appear at the London International Children’s Festival, and have been nominated for a number of awards, including three times for “Outstanding Production - Theatre for Young Audiences” at Toronto’s prestigious Dora Awards.

Tom has also been an active theatre educator of all ages - ranging from teaching acting and production courses for university students at Montreal’s Concordia University, adjudicating high school drama festivals, to designing and running after-school programs for inner-city elementary schools in Quebec and B.C.

Recently, Tom has begun writing for the stage, and his new play for young adults, The Bones of William Shakespeare, as well as his performance poetry pieces have been awarded significant high profile grants from both the government and private sectors.

Tom lives in Mississauga, Ontario with his wife Stephanie. He has a son, Jonah, and two daughters, Samantha and Isabella.
